In the past two seasons, Simpson and Gragen's coaching staff has led their U10 team to an impressive eight championship game appearances out of the nine tournaments they have entered. Sarah & Diana Rice

Sarah Rice, a graduate of Spaulding High School in Barre, VT, has made a name for herself in the world of softball. Her talent and dedication to the sport have led her to play and coach both fast and slow pitch softball throughout her career. In 1995, Sarah was named the VT/NH Twin State VT MVP, showcasing her exceptional skills on the field.


Sarah's experience and expertise extend beyond her playing days. From 2011 to 2015, she served as the assistant Field Hockey and Softball coach for Nichols College. During her time as a coach, she brought a wealth of knowledge and a unique perspective to the program. Her ability to understand the game from both a player and a coach's standpoint has undoubtedly contributed to her success.


Diana Rice, on the other hand, is a graduate of Wareham High School, South Shore. She excelled in both soccer and softball during her time there. As the captain of the women's soccer team, Diana set a remarkable school record for the most goals scored in a single season. Her talent and leadership qualities were recognized when she was named a Boston Globe All Scholastic in her senior year.


In addition to her soccer achievements, Diana was also a standout player for the softball team. Playing as a catcher and first baseman, she showcased her versatility and skill on the field. Her dedication and hard work paid off when she received an Associate's degree in Exercise Science from Dean College in Franklin. At Dean, Diana's impressive batting average of .518 ranked her ninth in the nation.


Currently, Diana is an Operation Supervisor at TJX in Worcester, but her passion for softball remains strong. Alongside Sarah, she volunteers her time to coach the Central Mass Lightning Softball program. As non-parent coaches and women role models, Sarah & Diana bring a unique vision and perspective to the team. Their love for the game and their desire to help young athletes develop their skills make them invaluable assets to the program.


Sarah and Diana are shining examples of the impact that passion and dedication can have on a sport. Their impressive playing careers, coupled with their coaching experience, make them exceptional role models for aspiring softball players. The Central Mass Lightning Softball program is undoubtedly fortunate to have such knowledgeable and dedicated individuals leading the way.
